This is a show I’ve been excited for since they announced it. Coming to Netflix is Samurai Rabbit the Usagi Chronicles which follows the adventures of Usagi Yojimbo whose name literally translates to rabbit bodyguard. First debuting in comics in 1984 the series has won many awards and accolades for its gripping stories and striking visuals. Not only that, the character has appeared in several series of another anthropomorphic group of warrior animals showing up in several iterations of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But now he will be getting his own CGI series coming to Netflix This series will follow his descendant Yuichi Usagi as he trains to become a samurai. Take a look at the panel from SDCC @Home with the great Stan Sakai and the team behind the new series.
One of the things they highlighted is that the original Usagi would appear in the series in 2d sequences. I personally love this idea considering the character came from comic books so it just feels right. We even get to see a tease for one of those 2D sequences. Casting will include Darren Bennet as Usagi, Aleks Le as Gen, Shelby Rabara as Kitsune, and Mallory Low as Chizu. There’s no release date but they are working on bring this to me, to us, I meant to us. I can appreciate that they are keeping the creator involved so much through the process and once we get more news we’ll share it with you guys.
