So, here’s something I can get behind. Warner Bros. is doing an animated recreation of the legendary George Romero Night of the Living Dead but in animated form. My first though to this was, I am very interested. You do not get more genre establishing than the classic Night of the Living Dead but at the risk of angering fans the movie was made in 1968. It’s a classic to be sure and there have been more than a few attempts to recreate or further define the genre but an animated version of it, well I want to see that.
Now all we have to show with this announcement is the box art. Now I’m taking this with a grain of salt because I want to see actual animation. I do like the look of the characters as it almost seems like they should be in black and white, and the colors look a bit desaturated. Animation will be provided by Dementa Animation Studio who have previously worked on Boy and Dragon, Epicentro, and woked with companies like Coogle and Discovery Kids.
Well with animation a standout voice crew is needed. Casting will include Josh Duhamel as Harry Cooper, Katharine Isabelle as Barbara Cooper, Dulé Hill as Ben, Katee Sackoff as Judy, Will Sasso as Sheriff McClellend, and James Roday Rodriguez as Tom.
The film will be released September 21st on digital and October 5th, 2021 on Blu-ray and DVD. Preorders are available August 10th, 2021.
This may be early but I think this could be a very cool thing to look at. I love the zombie genre and I love animation, but I have question how brutal will they go. The original movie is pretty tame by today’s standards so it’s not necessary for the film to be good. Look for more information here as it breaks.
