May the 4th be with you my fellow Star Wars fan. And as a fan I love that I have so much Star Wars literally at my fingertips. Movies, games, tv shows, toys, novelizations, my bucket is overrunning with Star Wars and I’m still wondering, what more do you have? Oh, look at that, new trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi just released. Let’s watch.
I got chills man. Look it’s been over 40 years since Star Wars and the history that’s been established is overwhelming even with the reboot done after the Disney buyout. But this is about a character that began this history and that’s Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi so let’s break this down.
First off the Inquisitors are here. These are force sensitive operatives raised by Darth Sidious and commanded by Darth Vader to hunt down stray Jedi after the events of Order 66. We even get to see their base of operations Fortress Inquisitorius. These guys may not be fully trained Sith Lords but make no mistake they are quite adept and more or less are the inner circle soldiers for the Sith.
How about Owen hitting Obi right where he’s force sensitive? The Lars really didn’t seem to like Obi in the original film and boy that tension is front and center here. You had to wonder why Obi didn’t train Luke at all while they were on Tatooine and it looks like Lars flat out refused the training of young Luke. Being that this story takes place ten years after Revenge of the Sith that’s a long time to keep telling someone to sod off.
So let’s put ourselves in Darth Vader’s robotic attachments for a second? Obi-Wan made you a triple amputee, took away your baby mama, and may have had a hand in your twin kids dying. Oh yeah it looks like Vader is not pulling out any stops to find Obi-Wan with us getting several shots of Moses Ingram as the Third Sister either going after or telling Obi he won’t escape.
But then we have what I can almost say is the rawest depiction of Darth Vader with the attachment screwing and plugging into his body. I know that shot of the plugs on the chest plate going in was particularly gross. It’ll be good to see Hayden back in the role though. I think that guy got a bad rap and I love the community is giving back some of that love he deserved.
The Obi-Wan series is set to take place ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Set to appear in the series is Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, Bonnie Piesse as Beru Whitesun Lars, Moses Ingram as Reva / the Third Sister and Rupert Friend as the Grand Inquisitor. Writer Joby Harold and director Deborah Chow are also attached to the series.
