Okay, the studio Dotemu has been producing some great games. I loved Streets of Rage 4, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, and of course they have Metal Slug. But they dropped the next one they have coming and it’s Marvel Cosmic Invasion.
Yes, my friends that side scrolling action game genre is alive and well. During the strike the team and I played this a lot. It’s fun to get together with the crew and go old school with new school tech. But now you are doing a Marvel one? Okay you got me.
This isn’t Marvel’s first foray into this type of gaming and there are some really beloved titles and this is looking to add to that lineage. The game’s plot says,
“A cosmic battle awaits! Choose between 15 Marvel heroes in this frenetic action beat ‘em up to fight against the deadly Annihilation Wave threatening the galaxy. From New York City to the depths of the Negative Zone, the future of the Marvel Universe will be fought for across the stars!”
The game says it will have 15 playable characters, and we know Dotemu comes with DLC for games so maybe more later. Multiplayer will be local and online but we’re not sure how many players can play at the same time but it’s looking like 4 with also a drop in/drop out adaptive system. Confirmed playable characters are Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Nova, Phyla-Vell, Venom, and Storm. I love that we’re looking at the 90’s costumes for the characters even though some like Phyla-Vell who a bit newer are still present. The long ponytail on Nova is a look though. Annihilus is also confirmed as the big bad considering you’ll be attempting to stop his Annihilation Wave from destroying the universe. The game also features a Cosmic Swap tag team system allowing you to choose two characters and swap on the fly for different combo and attacks.
Look for this sometime in 2025 available for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Steam and this is merely an announcement trailer. I’m expecting another big trailer once we get closer with a more precise release date. Once more is released.
