Minor overall spoilers.
Have you ever booked an Airbnb? Have you ever thought “Hey wouldn’t it be scary if I got murdered?” If the answer is yes then oh boy have I got a movie for you.
This movie kind of feels like three movies duct-taped together. There’s an initial, somewhat typical build up for a horror movie, big scary thing, then we go back and do another build up, big scary thing, then we go BACK and do a backstory for a side villain that appears in our main story for about 3 minutes. Mostly this side villain serves as a somewhat unsubtle mirror to one of our main characters, and his backstory is completely unnecessary to the plot.
All that being said the acting in this movie is superb. Our final girl gives it her all and I appreciate Justin Long signing on to play an grade-A douche nozzle. Our monster is scary, and the themes, while a little on the nose, really hit home at the end. Beautifully shot and edited, and extra points for needle drop at the credits.
