Together HOLY SHIT NO THANK YOU! Together is one of the most disturbing movies I have seen in a long time. Allison Brie and Dave Franco, real life couple, play a couple moving to a small town and literally stumble onto a secret magic that makes them start to fuse. The performances from both actors […]

The Nice guys is one of those movies about which people lament: “They just don’t make em like they used to.” But movies like this one have always been rare. Clever jokes, engaging plot points, stylish sets, charismatic actors, on-point directing, and a believable story – it’s always been a compelling combination. But it’s just

So we decided to do a February comedy month – because honestly, we knew we couldn’t make it through a month of romances or even “rom-coms” (which so often seem to be much more eager to show the “romance” part). And we knew there’d be quite a few that didn’t age well: For instance- casual

This movie is, of course, incredibly funny. In that classic Mel Brooks type way, the super meta ending felt completely earned, the ridiculousness of the townspeople, the governor, and the badguy making his minions pledge allegiance to evil were amazing. Most of what makes this movie funny though are individual moments, visual gags, and one-off

The basic premise of this is, a serial killer goes to a concert with his daughter. Or a father who murders people takes his daughter to a concert that means a lot to her. Trap navigates this dichotomy brilliantly. I don’t know what to say about the movie. It is lazy in certain parts, and

A somewhat baffling but interesting movie. There are a lot of elements that kind of work. The main character is really good. She’s believable throughout and her transitioning into an alter ego is an interesting ride. I don’t really understand a lot about the guy that she’s in contact with. He’s empathetic and helpful as

Pearl is beautiful, interesting at times, and well acted. But it’s not scary, and fails to make the characters compelling enough to feel high-stakes in the most important moments. Pearl is the prequel to “X”, and they share slasher vibes and a central location. But where X feels exuberant and almost playful, Pearl feels forced

Minor overall spoilers. Have you ever booked an Airbnb? Have you ever thought “Hey wouldn’t it be scary if I got murdered?” If the answer is yes then oh boy have I got a movie for you. This movie kind of feels like three movies duct-taped together. There’s an initial, somewhat typical build up for

Speak No Evil is a frustrating movie. Our main couple are Americans in Italy on vacation, and they meet a British couple, whom they quickly befriend, they both have one child and the children that also get along well, and eventually the Americans are invited back to the British couple’s house for a weekend. Following

A masterpiece. A Quiet Place has always been about the intersection between horror stories and stories about humanity and how we connect and communicate. This one does not disappoint. A Quiet Place tells the story of a terminally ill woman trying to make it through New York on, literally, day one of the invasion. She
