The sequel to the Bumblebee movie and the seventh film of the live action Transformers series just released a second trailer for the upcoming film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts set to release June 9th, 2023. This will mark the first time that characters from the Transformers Beast Wars series will see a live action debut. I for one am excited considering Beast Wars was awesome. And I also found the first few toys from the movie with the new Studio Series Bumblebee and Arcee figs. But I digress, let’s look at the trailer.
From the studio, “Set in the 1990s, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on an action-packed, globetrotting adventure as the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons join the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons on Earth. Noah, a sharp young guy from Brooklyn, and Elena, an ambitious, talented artifact researcher, are swept up in the conflict as Optimus Prime and the Autobots face a terrifying new nemesis bent on their destruction named Scourge.”
I say this with almost every Transformers live action movie released, I’m in. And if there’s one thing, they can do with these trailers is tickle the fancy of the fandom. Sure, we’ll gripe about designs and what we would do as fans but we’re going to the movies. And then rewatch three times, then say we hated it, and after buying the DVD we’ll watch it 5 more times still saying we don’t like it. I’ve lived through a lot of incarnations of this franchise so I’m willing to accept new takes on things while acknowledging that I still have the history that it was based on. With all that said, Holy crap that was Unicron.
Unicron entering the franchise was something extremely poorly done in the last Michael Bay movie. But this time that is a planet sized Transformer that we see in the film and a design making it indistinguishable from the classic version of the Chaos Bringer. Not only that but we see his herald Scourge looking into what I can only guess is the face of Unicron. I am shocked they were able to keep this under wraps. This is an Avengers level threat, sorry, wrong franchise. People were wondering exactly what Optimus Primal was referring to in the first trailer. Well, he kind of downplayed it to be honest.
Directed by Steven Caple jr. the film will star Anthony Ramos as Noah Diaz, Dominique Fishback as Elena Wallace, and Tobe Nwigwe as Reek. The Autobots will be played by Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee whom I assume will be played by various radio sounds, Pete Davidson as Mirage, Liza Koshy as Arcee, Cristo Fernández as Wheeljack, and John DiMaggio as Stratosphere
The Maximals will have Ron Perlman as Optimus Primal, Oscar winning actress Michelle Yeoh as Airazor, David Sobolov as Rhinox, and Tongayi Chirisa as Cheetor.
The Terrorcons will have Peter Dinklage as Scourge, David Sobolov doing double duty as Battletrap, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez as Nightbird also the first transgender actress in the franchise ever, and John DiMaggio as Transit cause you can never have too much John Dimaggio.
Unicron will be voiced by Colman Domingo.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will release in the U.S. on June 9th, 2023.
