Nicolas Cage gives a masterful performance as Longlegs. You read that right. Nicolas freakin’ CAAAGE, MAN!! I couldn’t take my eyes off of him anytime he was onscreen. Maika Monroe delivered in her performance as Lee Harker, the detective and main character, and so does Alicia Witt, Lee’s somewhat waifish mother. Nic Cage’s prosthetics were a little distracting, but also serve to distract from the fact that it’s Nic Cage so… not too mad about it.
Absolutely in love with the cinematography. Longlegs was shot with a wide lens, (technical note: a wide lens doesn’t give you that flattering “movie look”), so each shot feels like it’s documenting the whole scene. That style of shooting made me feel like I was experiencing the story from Lee’s perspective.
A masterpiece of tension, that never leaves you feeling safe. And not just because the main character sits WITH HER BACK TO THE DOOR IN HER CABIN WITH 4,000 WINDOWS AND NO BLINDS. AND there’s a random possibly zombie cat that hisses at you.
Did you say your prayers last night?
