I have to say, this is making me like this movie even more now. So we’re treated to a new trailer for the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and as a DnD player, this movie feels like a game being played around a table. If you’re a player you’ll know what I mean. Check out the trailer and then we’ll talk more.
Okay we have some more of the story here and it’s a pretty basic story to be honest. Bad people do bad things and then attempt to redeem themselves. But this kind of story can be great with the right cast, story, and a 20 roll. So never discount the power of Chris Pine in a role. People like him and that’s something that will translate to butts in seats. But we see the man we thought was a cowardly bard may have been something more. Michelle Rodriguez is going to be our barbarian and looks like a badass. Regé-Jean Page is our straight laced paladin and I’m betting he’s going to be a fan favorite. Justice Smith as the team’s sorcerer looks like a role perfect for him. Sophia Lillis is a Tiefling druid and I’m hoping this is a breakout role for her. And then Hugh Grant is going to be the rogue and it looks like no one should have trusted him, but he’s a rogue what do you want? See the beauty of this is the difference of each of the characters is reminiscent of that same feeling of playing with your friends. And that’s what’s going to pull players in, and the other stuff is going to pull in the casuals. There’s quite a bit of star power on display and it’s a recipe for success.
Directed and written by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley with Michael Gilio also writing the movie is being produced by Entertainment One which was acquired by Hasbro in 2019. The movie stars Chris Pine as Edgin the Bard, Michelle Rodriguez as Holga the Barbarian, Justice Smith as Simon the Sorcerer, Regé-Jean Page as Xenk the Paladin, Hugh Grant as Forge Fitzwilliam the Rogue, and Sophia Lillis as Doric, the tiefling Druid. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves debuts in theaters March 31st, 2023.
