Bring It On Review

So we decided to do a February comedy month – because honestly, we knew we couldn’t make it through a month of romances or even “rom-coms” (which so often seem to be much more eager to show the “romance” part). And we knew there’d be quite a few that didn’t age well:

For instance- casual homophobia, guys being REALLY creepy and not being called out on it, and a lot of slang that’s just not used anymore…there’s just a lot that says “early 2000s”. It reminded me of stereotypes that I never really understood, like the assumption that guys that hang out all day with hot cheerleaders are obviously…gay?

That being said, the characters are charming, and the ending is really satisfying. Eliza Dushku shows off why she was the girl I wanted to be in high school, and Gabrielle Union is perfect in everything she does, including having thoughts about the main character Torrence’s…not so subtle white savior move. Our second movie in a row to feature what seems like a bi character so, some props there. This movie also shows off why you gotta show respect to cheerleading for the sheer athleticism required to do it.
